Central Scotland Green Network Trust

Working together to improve the lives of 3.8m people

CSGNT seeks your feedback on draft proposals for Almondell & Calderwood Country Park (south) in order to prepare Woodland Management Plans which will then be submitted to Forestry Commission Scotland for approval. If the Plans are approved then funding applications can be made to carry out phased works. Further information can be found below.

Feedback on draft proposals is sought in order to inform finalised proposals for Woodland Management Plans for Calderwood and East Calder Woods including Hoghill and Oakbank. The Plans will set out the intended work programme for the next 10 years. This is part of the process under Forestry Commission Scotland’s Woodlands In and Around Towns (WIAT) programme.

Almondell and Calderwood Country Park (south) is a mixture of new, semi-mature and mature woodland with an access network of varying conditions. The majority of this area is designated as a Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the biological importance of the upland oak woodland and fen grassland (wetland).

The proposals are reasonably light touch to enhance the mature woodlands, particularly within the SSSI, by limited thinning or the removal of competitive regeneration. Access will be enhanced where possible to improve the enjoyment of visitors to the Country Park.

CSGNT would welcome your feedback on these proposals, both negative and positive, with any further comments encouraged. If you would like to make comments please email them to Carol Campbell at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  by Friday 11 December.  These will then be used to finalise the Woodland Management Plans.
